50 Years Since StonewallLocated in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Stonewall National Monument is a National Park Service site dedicated to a key turning point in the modern lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer civil rights movement. On June 28, 1969, patrons, employees, and police clashed during a raid on the Stonewall Inn. The confrontation spread into the neighboring streets and adjacent Christopher Park. The days-long uprising marked a significant moment in the struggle for LGBTQ rights, providing momentum for the movement well beyond the streets of New York City.
