diwatahan: B I S A Y A N M y t h o l o g y S e r i e s | x | Si Kabay: The Mother of the Bisayans Known as the “Eve of the Bisayans”, Si Kabay is the first woman in the Bisayan creation story. She was born from a bamboo reed, along with her twin brother, Si Kalak, that was pecked open by a kite and was planted by the primordial sky god, Kaptan as a sign of peace and of marriage with the primordial sea goddess, Magwayen. Si Kabay was described as a beautiful woman with brown skin, dark brown eyes, and long, shining black hair. In fear of getting punished by the gods she initially refused and was reluctant to marry her brother. Together they sought the advice of first the tuna fish of the sea who said they should marry. Still wary they then asked the advice from the doves of the sky who also agreed they should marry. Still not convinced they went to seek the advice of one of the gods themselves, Linog, the god of earthquakes, who approved of their marriage saying that the gods would not punish them and that he himself would marry them. Finally convinced through the approval of creatures of the sky and sea and of one of the gods themselves she agreed to marry her brother and gave birth to the first people. Her name has become the Bisaya term for women, babayi. -- source link
