Self portrait with black collar (1968, d), small self-portrait (1968, e), self-portrait with a hand (1968, f) and self-portrait as a skull (1968, not shown) all share the absence of a resemblance to the painter. This is substantially different from the self-portraits Dix painted in 1957 (b), 1964 ©, and 1967 whose similitude is very close to the photographs showing Dix at the respective dates (a) (copyright VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn, 2007).
