A good lesson. goreanmann: Going back to my days as a trainer, the crunch is such a fucking waste of time. Whenever I see people killing themselves with crunches or God forbid an ab-machine *shudder*, I know with 88% certainty that this poor soul has no idea what they are doing. YOU CANNOT TARGET FAT LOSS! That said a good strong core is very valuable to you in the gym, and will help you do better on all of your other exercises. And what’s better is that one of the best exercises, the plank, is relatively simple. But you still need to do it right. Just holding yourself up on your elbows and your toes won’t cut it. You need to actually use your muscles. Contract your core muscles, engage your glutes to turn your pelvis under and flatten out your lower back. Notice the huge sway in the girl in grey’s low back? She is holding all her weight in her spine. Not good. Where as the girl with the red pants is actually using her core and her lower back is pretty flat. When you go to try this for the first time do not be surprised if you can’t hold the proper position for very long. You’re actually using your muscles, and exercise is supposed to be hard. UPDATE: So I queued this post last night and after I went to bed I got to wondering if I had adequately explained the proper plank technique. I worried about whether or not i had described it in language a bimbo would understand. So this morning i went looking for a good video or online tutorial about how to do a proper plank that I could link to in this post. You would be surprised how hard it was to find a proper plank instruction on the net. Some of the tutorials I found had very fit looking people doing it all wrong. Some had videos of trainers describing how to do the exercise, even doing it correctly but glossing over the importance of neutral spine position, or any discussion of how hard it can be to maintain neutral spine position. Finally I found this video… Proper plank position Then after a little more digging I found this article, and the funny thing is that it appears to be where the above picture came from! The Plank: Proper form and technique Hope this helps have a fit and bimboey day :) !!!! -- source link
