mypinholepinups: Émile Champion was 21 when these images were taken, and he may have only just won the silver medal for the marathon at the 1900 Paris Olympics. I am beginning to imagine that Paul Richer had set up an improvised outside studio at, possibly, the Racing Club de France which was hosting the Olympic athletic events. His athlete-models have the appearance of just coming off the track etc. with their disheveled hair and, in Émile Champion’s case, blistered feet. “But little else is known about Émile Champion’s athletic career. He competed for Racing Club de France. Champion served in the 150th Régiment d’Infanterie in the town of St. Mihiel, in the Meuse. He later became a commercial employee in Trouville.” Olympedia Aesthetes and Athletes. Paul Richer, as a professor of artistic anatomy, photographed many French and visiting athletes to further his studies. Many were appearing at the 1900 Paris Olympics. -- source link
