mypinholepinups: My unlooked theme of cyclists in studios has taken an unexpected turn. Meet cyclist Gaston Collin (above top) at the studio of French sculptor Aristide Maillol. The photo is taken about 1907 by his lover Henry Graf Kessler (below); diplomat, writer, soldier, art patron and a promoter of the League of Nations. In 1909 he helped Hugo von Hofmannsthal with the scenario for the of Der Rosenkavalier the bittersweet story of an affair between the Marschallin and her young lover. The Marschallin sings that she stops the clocks at night, Kessler had his Quinquin immortalised in bronze, one version of which is to be found in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Kessler, ‘the man who knew everybody’, died in Lyon in 1936. (Thanks for the original post from @malenudesinfineart) -- source link
