Today in History, January 18th, 1943,Sliced bread is banned in the United StatesCreated as a World War II war rationing measure, it was reasoned that sliced bread required more packaging to prevent it from drying out, thus unnecessarily using important resources needed for war materials.. Furthermore the law was intended to conserve metals necessary for the war effort which were used in producing bread slicing machines. The law was short lived, being rescinded on March 8th of the same year. -- source link
