Euphonium skirt progress~ I had a lot of trouble looking for a satin or satin-like fabric that would match the color of the bias tape on the skirt (and subsequent uniform collar and sleeve cuffs). An afternoon was spent on dyeing various lengths of yellow and white satin, with none resulting in the particular shade that matched reference art. A piece of taffeta from Hancock Fabrics, purchased during their closing/liquidation sale, bless their hearts, wound up being the closest in color to what I had in mind.I could not find a perfectly matching thread color due to the dye job.I tore 2.5″ wide strips from the taffeta to make 1.25″ wide bias tape. The bias tape was sewn 1″ away from the bottom hem. The seams of the bias tape were placed in inner folds of the pleats to reduce visibility.Skirt hook & eyes were added to the waistband after everything was ironed. The skirt looks deceptively wide when flat on the table vs. when worn. The final cost of the skirt came out to be $8.12, with bulk of the cost spent on the brown base fabric. -- source link
