uesp:Did You Know: The potential origin of Harpies is portrayed in the play “Ghraewaj”, which translates to either “The Crows Who Were Punished” or “The Crows Who Punish”? In the play, Noctyr-a (who is possibly truly Nocturnal) ensnares the baron of Lainlyn, and is about to force him to commit suicide to prove his love, when the baron’s wife tricks Noctyr-a into putting on a robe that magically transforms her into a bird. Noctyr-a’s transformation breaks the spell on the baron, and he immediately kills the giant bird before ordering his cook to prepare her into a feast. The baron then serves Noctyr-a to her coven. The magic from the cursed robe is transferred onto the coven, transforming them all into half-bird creatures. -- source link
