Last week the City started construction on the Brooklyn Bridge Bike Lane. The new lane will replace the inner traffic lane on Manhattan-bound side of the Brooklyn Bridge with a two-way, 8-foot wide bike lane (4-feet in each direction). According to the Department of Transportation, 10,000 pedestrians and 4,000 cyclists cross the shared promenade on an average weekday, which ranges from 10 to 17 feet wide. The Queensboro Bridge is also slated to have a traffic lane converted for cyclists. What do you think of this proposal? Should more roadways be converted to bike lanes?
