girlgastly:what time is it? that’s right, time for some TERF MYTHBUSTING!-’TERFs want trans women to die/are violent towards trans people!’FALSE. out of 800 respondents, 4 (0.5%) wanted trans women to die. shitty that it’s any at all! but an incredibly low number considering the amount of posts on here that claim otherwise. 1 person (0.13%) said they had never assaulted a trans person but supported the assault of trans people. again, shitty, but shockingly unpopular. finally, 1 person admitted to verbally harassing trans people for being trans and 3 said they’d sent harassment via the internet/tumblr messages.in conclusion: there are a few shitty people in the movement. never claimed it was squeaky clean and completely free of bad or transphobic behavior. still, considering the extremely small percentages i think we can safely put the ‘radfems are all violent transphobes’ myth to rest.comments for those curious:-’TERFs hate trans women!’again, FALSE. only 1.38% of those surveyed stated they hated trans women (11 people). the most popular response (50.63%) was that they supported trans women unless they were being violent/misogynistic, with the runner up being that they did not hate them but distrusted them (30.58%). considering the amount of violent messages trans women and other anti-terfs send us, i would say that isn’t uncalled for. 4% stated they supported trans woman wholly and 6.64% said they were indifferent.‘other’ responses (6.68%):moving on!-’TERFs call trans men traitors and think they are just trying to opt into the oppressor class!’FALSE. 3 respondents (0.38%) said they viewed trans men as traitors. the majority (81.45%) support them as dysphoric/gnc females and believe they belong is female spaces (so that isn’t a myth, if people want to throw that at me - however, it makes the ‘trans-exclusive’ part of TERF null and void). 8.02% (as well as several of the respondents that checked ‘other’) hold that trans men are in fact men and either don’t belong in female spaces or should get the right to choose whether they want to be involved in female spaces or not.‘other’ comments (10.15%):(note: i have not published every comment because it’s tedious to screenshot paste/screenshot paste. if you want to see every comment though please message me and i will post them all later)-’TERFs want trans women to go into male bathrooms? Don’t they know that trans women run a high risk of being assaulted there????’most of us do, actually. 67.67% of TERFs say that trans people should have access to gender neutral restrooms, 5% believe they should use the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity and 11.63% simply don’t give a flying fuck, let em pee where they want! the amount of TERFs that believe trans women should only use restrooms that correspond to their biological sex is 15.88% - i wouldn’t call this a ‘busted myth’ entirely because that’s a notable percentage, but it is also still a clear minority. MOSTLY FALSE!-’I can’t believe these people think TERF is a slur omg’MOSTLY FALSE. out of the respondents 7.14% believe TERF is a slur. the majority (like myself) believe it is not (81.45%) but that it IS a silencing tactic used generously on tumblr dot com. the other 11.41% either think it’s stupid or like it.-’TERFs want to keep trans people from transitioning!’this is, i’d say, SOMEWHAT FALSE. A LITTLE TRUE? idk. the percentage that believe transition should not be offered was higher than i expected (24.31%). however, considering the stories i’ve heard from detransitioned women and some pretty graphic descriptions of the medical procedures involved it’s hard to believe that opinion is out of hate and not genuine concern for the risks involved. 30% believe that transition is a good way to treat dysphoria but that there should be more alternatives and 45.11% believe it is not a good way to treat dysphoria but that it should be offered regardless. only 0.63% believe it is the best way to go about dealing with dysphoria.-’TERFs keep calling transactivism a cult! how crazy is that?’not too crazy in my opinion, although i (and 62.28% of other TERFs) think it isn’t but that it has some worrisome parallels. a little over 27% believe it is though. 7% believe it is nolt a cult or cult like.‘other’ responses:i’ll put this one in the category of SOMEWHAT FALSE/A LITTLE TRUE.this is probably the point where i’m supposed to make a statement about not following blindly and to question the things you hear but tbh putting all this together has zapped the energy right out of me, so i’ll let someone else do it for me. my point in all this ultimately is that TERFs are not by any means perfect and absolutely can hold some transphobic views/say transphobic things/etc but we are not the monsters you paint us as. i’ll end with this:there are more of us than you think. we are your friends, partners, mutuals, etc. we are not this faceless group of hateful bigots. we are people who are doing our best to criticise patriarchy and protect women. and if you can look at the above information and think this:is justified, you may want to take a look at yourself and ask what you’re doing labelling yourself as a feminist -- source link
