These innocuous looking insects are important but threatened because of a misdirected evolutionary desire: the males are intimately attracted to discarded brown beer bottles, which strongly resemble the most desirable, biggest, shiniest and bumpiest female imaginable. As a result the males pile on and end up dying of dehydration in the hot sun, desperately attempting to mate with the inanimate containers in vain. (at The Field Museum) Sorry, little guy.
