lichenloglichenblog:THE CLADONIA OF MT. TABOR Fear not readers this will have neither Clint Eastwood nor sappiness. Okay perhaps a bit of sappiness, what can I say these little guys make me swoon. The past few days have taken me up a new trail which is boarded by yet another red lava rock wall. I don’t know how such a hideous hardscape material can create such a perfect lichen habitat, but I believe it only works when it is used to construct a retaining wall. The slow, steady moisture seepage and all the nooks and crannies must combine to make this a haven. Or it is natures way of covering up the rock’s inherent case of the uglies. Armed with my trusty micro lens, which has a very limited depth of field, I set out to investigate and was rewarded beyond my expectations. As an aside, I knew this woman who said that she was concerned when her husband finally got glasses, because she felt she looked better in a fuzzier focus. This is my way of explaining that perhaps this wild amount of variety has always been there but perhaps I didn’t see it because I rarely walk in my reading glasses. Lichen On!!! -- source link
