On 17 March, 2019, at around 5PM, the police received a call from paramedics after they had arrived at an apartment in Rivne, Ukraine. In the apartment was the corpse of a 3-week-old baby girl named Diana. As it turned out, the 21-year-old mother of Diana, who cannot be named for legal reasons, cut her daughter’s throat in a jealous rage because she believed her 26-year-old husband loved Diana more than he loved her. When her husband went outside to throw out some rubbish, the woman took her chances, grabbed a kitchen knife and proceeded to cut the baby’s throat. When he returned, he saw that his wife’s hands were covered with blood and rushed into the bedroom to check on his daughter and saw her corpse in a pool of blood. He frantically called emergency services. The 21-year-old woman was later arrested and charged with murder. Investigators will conduct a psychiatric examination to determine if she is mentally incompetent. It must be noted that around six months ago, the woman was suffering from meningoencephalitis, which gave her some complications and led to psychological disorders. Neighbours described the family positively, and did not notice any odd behaviour of the 21-year-old at any time. If the psychiatric examination shows that the mother was responsible for her actions at the time of the criminal act, she will be charged with premeditated murder of a minor and will face up to 15 years imprisonment if she is found guilty. -- source link
