wikimoon: titimylove:silvermoon424: sailormoonsub:wikimoon:On December 14, 1996, the Save Our Sailors campaign asked fans to go out and buy Strawberry Pop-Tarts as a “procott” to demonstrate to advertisers their support for the Sailor Moon dub. Never forget our history Wasn’t SOS the same group that refused to accept Neptune and Uranus’s homosexuality? I came into the fandom well after this, but I remember reading articles about how SOS invented the myth of “Prince Uranus” (that Sailor Uranus was male during the Silver Millennium and therefore Uranus’s romance with Neptune is totes hetero). I’m pretty sure I remember reading that people would show SOS translated interviews of Naoko Takeuchi stating that Neptune and Uranus were lovers and they would freak out and insist that Naoko’s words had been twisted. yeah sos were pretty homophobic and had some weird christian-centric leanings as well. the hoops they jumped through were pretty nuts. as a canadian, i was pretty ticked their campaigns were us-only, when the show was dubbed right here in canada and most of their overseas merchandising was made by canadians. they were one of the first websites i ever frequented on my pos windows 95. i literally never understood the point of sailor moon support by way of poptarts. there was zero correlation between the two. Someone is in need of trivia????The idea was that if the sponsors of Sailor Moon on tv saw an uptick in the purchase of their products, they would clearly make the connection that it was because their ads were working, and would therefore give more money to keep the show on the air. SOS made a list of all the companies who advertised during the show, then had a poll to decide which one of those products they would purchase to “show their support.”And, ta-da, that’s how we got Pop-Tarts.https://wikimoon.org/index.php/WikiMoonWeb:Save_Our_Sailors -- source link
