Her entire life had been planned out from the day she drew her first breath, from the most exclusive boarding schools and private academies, to prep-schools and her university, all the way to her extracurricular and social activities to the people she would know and the career she would pursue. And she had lived up to every expectation, graduating at or near the top of every class she attended, sitting next to princes and the children of world leaders as she went through the course of her life and her set destiny. She became a gifted lawyer and she was already being considered for a position overseas with the ambassador corps when she married Steven at the age of twenty seven. At twenty eight she gave birth to Emily, at twenty-nine Steven Jr. Came along and she was offered a position with the ambassador’s office in Cyprus. She took her family and went where she was sent. Steven accepted a posting in Médecins Sans Frontières to remain close to her and they were the very image of a happy family. The image of a happy family… Because Cobie wasn’t happy. She wanted something more than the scripted and well-planned life she had been born into, with her dull, infuriating job and her sweet, loving and boring husband. That was when she met Brant Cowles at a formal function. Steven was away on an assignment in Eritrea and the children were being boarded at a school in Athens for the duration of his assignment, leaving her largely alone. She had tried pouring herself into her work, but that only put her more squarely in the path of the handsome and charming Brant. On their first meeting he charmed her into a meeting over a formal dinner, and at that meeting he charmed her into his penthouse and then into his bed. He made her feel like no other man ever had, played her body like a harp and left her exhausted. One night of indiscretion turned into two, then five, then it was nearly a nightly event, her slipping into his penthouse quietly, and awaiting him in his bed in just her skin until he came to her and they loved through the night. It was a summer of bliss, but she knew that it was destined to end, Steven let her know that he would be returning to Cyprus soon and he hinted that he wanted more children, and she knew that it was expected of her, that he wouldn’t even ask, wouldn’t discuss it, he would just expect her to spread her legs and accept his decision. She knew that if she had any more children she would have to leave her job and return to the US to take care of them as the years passed and her marriage turned from cordial duty to loveless spite. But she hated her job more than she hated her marriage and she poured all of her worries out to Brant the night before Steven was due to return. “I don’t want to give this up, I don’t want to spend the next fifty years being the dutiful wife, talking about her career when she was young given up to be a dutiful little baby-oven.” She said and He kissed her forehead. “Then run away with me.” He said softly. “I have a private plane, and we can be in Dubai before morning, and then Manila by this time tomorrow, and from there we can go anywhere. Your husband will never find us if I don’t want him to. I have a small island in French Polynesia that isn’t on any map and can only be reached if you know where it is. I can even send for your children if you want.” He said and she thought about it for just a few minutes before she dressed hastily as he called to have his plane made ready. They rode to the airport in a limo and boarded the plane less than an hour after he broached the idea. Three days later they were on a little ring of white sand and palm trees halfway between New Zealand and South America and that was when Cobie learned the real truth. Brant hadn’t brought her here to run away with her, he had brought her here as property. He dressed her like a doll and treated her like a pet, right down to wearing a collar. It took her a few weeks to settle in to her new role, her new life, but despite her initial fear and anger she soon discovered that she enjoyed being his little sex-puppet. Nothing was expected from her aside from looking pretty and remaining subservient. He invited guests over and she was often sent to bed with one or more of them, but she enjoyed sex, and she could look past the fact that she was being passed around like property. She had left behind a life of wealth and privilege, a family and career to a life where she owned nothing, not even herself, a life where she was expected to speak only when spoken to and even then only expected to say flattering inanities. And as she knelt at Brant’s knee while he spoke with one of his associates, as the associate asked about her and was given permission to make use of her body in any way he wanted for the duration of his stay. She had no say over it, even when he asked if it was alright to leave marks on her and Brant said yes, anything but scars or broken bones was fine. She realized that she was happy, happier than she had ever been in her life.
