la-volpe-bianca: secret-agent-writer: fujisan-ni-noboru-hinode: historywars: Japanese soldier. Kempeitai officer, the military police of the Imperial Japanese Army. They weren’t a conventional military police force, but more of a secret police force, essentially the Japanese Gestapo. Were the Kempeitai as reviled as the Gestapo were? Only by their victims. It wasn’t uncommon in China for Japanese infantry on patrol to capture a suspected spy or collaborator, only for the Kempeitai to pull up and toss them in a car then speed off, never to be seen again. Or arrive on the battlefield after the fighting was over to collect POWs for intelligence “questioning.”In late 1944 and 1945, being taken by them was pretty much a death sentence. At that point they were under order to execute any prisoners, so once you were done getting interrogated, you’d have most likely got domed. -- source link
