A map of Lewis and Clark’s journey across the American West, published in 1814. Lewis, Clark, and 29 others spent over two years traveling from near St. Louis to Fort Clatsop in Oregon country. At this time of year in 1804-1805 they were wintering in a settlement they built called Fort Mandan (in modern day North Dakota). While there, they attempted to cultivate friendly relationships with local Native Americans and tried to survive the brutal winter conditions.{WHF} {HTE} {Medium} -- source link
