Here’s How the 2019 Oscars Made HistoryThe 2019 Oscars, and all of its memorable fashion moments and award speeches, has officially concluded. And while we’re already eagerly awaiting another year of exciting movie magic, this year’s ceremony proved to be one for the record books by featuring a record number of wins for black members of the Hollywood community.The 2019 Oscars featured a record seven wins for black filmmakers, cast, and crew, Entertainment Tonight reported. Those who picked up Oscars on Sunday night included Regina King (best supporting actress) for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk; Mahershala Ali (best supporting actor) for his performance in Green Book; Ruth E. Carter (best costume design) for her work on Black Panther; Hannah Beachler (best production design), also for her work on Black Panther; Peter Ramsey (best animated feature) for codirecting Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; and BlacKkKlansman team members Kevin Willmott and Spike Lee (best adapted screenplay).In addition to the record number of wins for people of color in the film community, Beachler became the first black person to win an Oscar for production design for her work on Black Panther, and Carter’s win, also for her work on Black Panther, is the first time a black person has won the Oscar for costume design.Continue reading -- source link
