“Women’s Music Festival,” Her-self, Vol. 5, No. 5 (November 1976). A report on the first Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival by Cheryl Peck, with photos by Debra Brady. (View larger: I, II, III, IV)“The sky remained bright and clear for the entire weekend — more than we had hoped — and the goddess reigned in all her glory and fury. Breasts, thighs, and bellies, accustomed to privacy and shaded seclusion, broiled, roasted, and baked to various degrees, from slightly-tender to don’t-touch-me-i-don’t-think-i-can-walk-back-to-the-tent-alone. At the end of the festival weekend, many of us wondered if we would ever again be able to put on a shirt and make our re-entry into the real world which had receded from our thoughts for a few brief days … [T]he three days we spent at the Women’s Music Festival in the country near Mt. Pleasant, Michigan were an exciting, enjoyable experience. Exciting to see thousands of women together on a few acres, walking, talking, loving; enjoyable for the change it provided from our everyday routine … Women need weekends (years) like this to give us strength and a sense of our own power. We need to raise our voices together more often.” -- source link
