grace-and-ace: la-knight: grace-and-ace: la-knight: grace-and-ace: biaceamazon: LOOK at what it says! “I’m asexual” clear as day. The joy i felt when i read those words. Representation matters. The book is ‘Every Heart a Doorway’ by Seanan McGuire I don’t know this book :o @grace-and-ace it is WONDERFUL!!! It’s about a girl named Nancy (the ace girl) who once found one of those magical portal doors, like the Wardrobe to Narnia or the rabbit hole to Wonderland, that sort of thing. But then she had to go back and her parents think she is mentally ill and was kidnapped and don’t believe her about the magic door so she gets sent to a school for other kids who have gone through other doors, run by a lady who went through a door to another magical world, and the kids get moral support from each other and also get life skills on the off-chance that they don’t manage to find the doors back to their own worlds. But right after Nancy gets to the school, kids start dying. So she is trying to figure out who is doing it. It’s one book of three. There’s a prequel about two of the side characters, and the sequel that has Nancy and a few other characters in it. Ooo sounds interesting! It’s so good. There is a group of four kids. One of them is straight and boy, he’s hispanic. One of them is a trans boy. And one of them is a lesbian. You don’t know she’s a lesbian in this book because she doesn’t talk about her girlfriend but you see her meet her girlfriend in the prequel book. And then of course there’s Nancy, who is asexual. Actually there’s a v kid, although she’s not really part of the group, she’s around but doesn’t do any of the investigating, and she straight but like I said she’s not really doing any of the investigating. Also no gays are harmed in the process of the murder mystery. But it is just really really good and I really think you would like it. Although trigger warning, the parents are abusive. Although not because of the kids sexual orientations. But Nancy, her parents take her clothes when they send her off to school. She packed a whole bunch of clothes that she brought back from the magical world and her parents took them and destroyed them and replace them with things that she actively said she did not want, and they did this behind her back and she doesn’t find out until she gets to school. It’s really traumatizing for her. And the trans kid has to deal with transphobic parents, but not in text. I appreciate the info! -- source link
