haiku-robot:fandomsandfeminism:segashark:fandomsandfeminism:segashark:bosslibrarian123:segashark:fandomsandfeminism:segashark:fandomsandfeminism:Look, I became a teacher for a lot of reasons. Not for the money, because we sure as hell dont get paid enough. Not for the ease of it, since its one of the most stressful professions. Not for the glory, since theres little to go around. I went into teaching because I like my subject. I like YA books. I like writing. I like finding the hidden meanings and the craft in poetry and short stories. I like showing that craft to others. I like helping thoughts become words.I went into teaching because I like that it makes me a lifelong learner. New ways to teach, new activities to try, new techniques to master. I went into teaching most of all because I like kids. I like teaching kids and talking to kids. I like how excited they are to tell you about things they care about. I like how funny they can be, how open to self discovery they are, how impressed by new information.I would do nearly anything to stay a teacher. I give up my very little time off for field trips and professional developments and conferences. I give up my money for pencils and crayons and glue and notebooks. I give up my evenings to grade papers and write lesson plans. But Ill be damned if anyone tells me I should bring a fucking gun into my classroom. If anyone tells me I should be ready and willing to shoot one of my students. That I need to be a human shield and a killer to do my job. Fuck that and fuck you and fuck all of it. Don’t you fucking dare ask me to kill children because you won’t consider any real change.First off let me say in pro gun. Secondly I think this is a half decent idea. If a teacher meets the requirements of gun safety and mental health they should be allowed to carry a gun in their classroom if they want. We live in a time where terrorism and fear are very prevalent and horrific. If a teacher wants to use a gun to protect themselves or their students from a shooter they should be able. The change you’re calling for wouldn’t really fix anything, it’d just make it harder for the law abiding citizens to get guns to protect themselves and those they care about. Criminals surprisingly enough don’t follow the law and if they want a gun they’ll get it.Fuck you. 100% Fuck. You. Holy fucking shit. How far up your ass is your head shoved that you thought that was a good reply to anything I said? Fucking hell. It is not MY JOB to be shot at and shoot at other people. It’s not my job to be a fucking security guard to take out an armed shooter. It’s my job to teach 13 year olds how to write complex sentences. Fuck you. You: I don’t want to carry a gun with me when I’m teaching.Me: I feel as though teachers should be allowed to carry a firearm with them if they want toYou: WOW IM NOT A HUMAN SHIELD!!!!Why else would they need a gun? To hunt some squirrels? You get a gun to protect students and then there’s someone who wants to kill the students, what’s gonna happen? You’re the one with the gun. You’re their biggest obstacle. You’ll be shot first. No ifs, ands, or buts. It’s not a decent idea—what if a student in the classroom gets that gun? What’s stopping a teacher from unlawfully shooting a student (perhaps in a fit of rage)? Teachers are humans. You know what teachers aren’t? Security guards. Why would they go in the line of fire because our current laws failed to protect them?Jesus Christ these ideas aren’t forcing a teacher to get a gun it’s giving them the option to conceal carry. So first off if they’re conceal carring or hell even carring a firearm right the student wouldn’t even know its there. If they’re the biggest obstacle and target that puts the focus on the teacher and not the students. The teacher would have to be properly trained and pass tests to carry it so more than likely they’re not gonna snap and just shoot a student.Because NO ONE who can legally own a gun and has been trained with it has ever just snapped and shot someone, right?Earlier this year, we had a student steal a knife out of the contraband drawer of the assistant principals office. Imagine if there had been a gun there. I do not want guns on my campus. I do not want guns on my campus at all. If the problem is too many guns, the solution is not more fucking guns. Having guns on a school campus is a bad idea. The problem isn’t too many guns it’s guns used by idiots. The problem is that toxic masculinity leaves many men unable to deal with their issues without resorting to violence, paired with fast and easy access to incredibly dangerous firearms (you can buy an AR 15 in less than an hour in most states.) Add to the fact that we have a gun lobby in this country that pumps millions of dollars into conservative politicians pockets to completely stall any common sense gun regulations (money that may have been laundered from the Russians https://www.cnbc.com/2018/02/15/nra-russia-and-trump-money-laundering-poisoning-us-democracy-commentary.html ) This leaves violent, resentful men with dangerous weapons and a government unable and unwilling to do any fucking thing about it.And giving the Math department chair a handgun aint gunna fix that. and giving the math department chair a handgun aint gunna fix that ^Haiku^bot^8.
