“Across all age ranges, participants viewed Blackgirls collectively as more adult than white girls.Responses revealed, in particular, that participantsperceived Black girls as needing less protection andnurturing than white girls, and that Black girls wereperceived to know more about adult topics and aremore knowledgeable about sex than their whitepeers. The most significant differences were foundin the age brackets that encompass mid-childhoodand early adolescence—ages 5–9 and 10–14—and continued to a lesser degree in the 15- to19-year-old age bracket. No statistically significantdifferences were found in the age group 0–4. That is, beginning as early as 5 years of age, Blackgirls were more likely to be viewed as behavingand seeming older than their stated age; moreknowledgeable about adult topics, including sex; andmore likely to take on adult roles and responsibilitiesthan what would have been expected for their age.” -- source link
