World Wetlands Day Mangroves grow and thrive where the land meets the sea. They assist in the resilience against coastal erosion. Forming part of coastal wetlands they protect coastal communities against flooding due to high sea levels. With deep roots they solidify the shorelines preventing easy washing away of land. They absorb carbon dioxides and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere hence the importance to replant or restore. They are also a host to biodiversity, home to an array of species, migratory birds, breeding habitat for fish, shellfish and sea turtles. When I started exploring my project “Between Sand and Water” I naturally came across and have since learnt a lot about these fascinating trees. These are just a few first glimpses into some of my observations. To be continued. Ofoe Amegavie, 2021 (at Ada, Ghana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKzkBmlDj9R/?igshid=1b686y8dfmlka -- source link
