yeoldefashion: I’ve gotten several requests to post turn of the century children’s fashion, so I thought I would do just that. I’m limiting myself to fashion from about 1890 to 1920 so that this doesn’t turn into a month long monster post. For much of history children were essentially dressed as miniature adults. The whole concept of children’s fashion as a separate entity from adult fashion really only evolved in the last 150 years or so. Although the Victorian era had distinct clothing for children often times they were simply shorter versions of their mother or fathers’ ensembles. This girl’s silk dress dates to 1890 and is very similar to women’s fashion of the era with the exception of falling at the knee, rather than the ankle. I love the detailed smocking, which was a very popular decoration on children’s clothing well into modern times. -- source link
