I own 33 pairs of shoes, and I’m doing my best to minimize my “collection” and I’m also swearing off buying a new pair of shoes in 2020.Today’s shoes are more flat bottoms, Converse and Vans.I really love Converse and Vans, because they can be easily converted into slip on shoes, and for the most part, they’re all day comfortable. Sure, they’re not the best when it comes to support, but they’re breathable, super light, and have a small profile, plus they last what seems to be forever, so they’re the most reliable shoes in my mind. The Black Converse are the most reliable shoe in the world, as you can sneak these on for business casual wear and not a lot of people would even notice. They’ll go with any outfit, and they hide dirt like a champ. The only problem with the all black chucks is that they’re almost never on sale, so it’s always retail price, $55-$60.The Grey Vans I bought as a winter style shoe, as the suede does great keeping the wet out, plus the fleece lining keeps my tootsies warm. There’s just one small design flaw: there’s nothing different with the sole, no extra insulation on the bottom. If I stand on a cold sidewalk for hours at a time, I can feel the cold ground through the bottom of the shoes, and it almost completely ruins the entire idea of wearing these kicks. Simple problem, simple solution: bought some inserts for them, and now they’re fine. $60.The American color, checkerboard vans were a pickup from last summer when I was looking for something to wear during the 4th of July week. The red shoes from a post before died so quickly I needed some kind of alternate, and these ended up being the gem I needed. I only wear these out on certain occasions, but because of that, they’ll last 10 years. If they look rad, chances are they’re retail: $65.The last pair are maroon Vans that my buddy Scuzz bought that ended up being just too small for him. I told him I’d buy them from him as our feet are just about the same, and let me say, these juuuust fit. Like if I forget to trim my toenails these don’t fit is what I’m talking about. I wear these now and again, but as the plan is with most of these shoes, I want to wear them down to nothing before I can buy anymore. $50.Shoes 30, 31, 32, and 33.Of the 33 shoes I own, I’ve decided to donate five of them, and tossed three more, bringing my “collection” down to 25. My plan by the end of the year is to be down to 20 pairs of shoes, or less. Now if I could only do the same with tee shirts. -- source link
