youarenotyou: blue-author: yepdeesaidit: kindredsmile: 1uppitynegress: policymic: Chase Bank is slut-shaming porn stars now It’s tough out there for a porn star — if you have the misfortune of banking with Chase Bank, that is. Adult performers across the industry are reporting that JPMorgan Chase has sent hundreds of letters to adult performers informing them that their accounts will be closed May 11. This story was supplemented by reporting by Perez Hilton, who spoke to several sources inside the adult industry, one of whom sent a screenshot of the letter. “We recently reviewed the account and determined that we will be closing it on May 11, 2014,” the letter from Chase wrote. “Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.” Read more | Follow policymic What the hell?!? Why would Chase be rejecting any money?!? This is ridiculous. A bank with a morality clause. The jokes write themselves. This is horrible, especially given the fact that banks will cheerfully do business with terrorists and drug cartels, knowing that the slap on the wrist fine basically amounts to cutting the government in on the profits… But “slut-shaming”? Really? Way to soft-pedal what really happened in the name of shoving click baity progressive buzzwords in the headline, policymic. This isn’t shaming. This is out and out discrimination. This is disrupting people’s livelihoods and financial existence. I mean, do you know how hard it is to get by in the United States without a checking account? I’m not saying folks don’t do it (some people have to), I’m saying, it locks you out of a lot of things. If you don’t have a bank account, you can’t even cash checks without paying someone for the privilege. And you can’t use a lot of the online payment options that independent performers depend upon. And in a classic catch-22, once you’ve been rejected by a bank, it’s that much harder to get another bank to give you a chance. TL;DR - If we’re going to call it what it is, the verb in the headline should be “discriminates”. ^I was waiting for someone to articulate this before I reblogged. “Slut shaming” is so beyond inappropriate to use here. -- source link
