kpop-stole-my-lyfe: traveling-spartan: end0skeletal: hella-free-space: ohplesiosaur: Shark finning infographic by ripetungi. MANDATORY REBLOG This sounds like a lot, but it’s true. An estimated 100,000,000 sharks per year are killed, threatening many species with endangerment or extinction. Scary predators are important to the ecosystem, too. Conservation’s not just about the panda bears. Honestly I don’t understand why people don’t care about topics like this. It’s not just how many humans kill but it’s also how they kill them. Shark Finning is incredibly cruel. The sharks are literally caught on a fishing line, net etc and then their fins are literally sliced off of them (whilst still alive) and then thrown back into the ocean which either means they bleed out or drown. And the fact that nobody wants to stand up for it because “sharks are scary” or “they eat people” disgusts me. Sharks have been glorified by the media to be an extremely aggressive and human targeting/eating species when that is far from the case. These animals deserve just as much attention as pandas, bengal tigers, and tiny marsupials. Did you know that their are only an estimated 3,500 great white sharks left in the world? ONLY 3,500. We need to get off our high horses and give a shit about these animals for once in our goddamn lives. -- source link
