it’s time for ~i cannot eat gold worldbuilding corner~, featuring: conlang shit i will probably change immediately because languages are hardThere is a word in Ataksul, bastden – from bast-sken, like a beast – for people who feel a deep connection to wild creatures. These people will often live aside from any group, hunting alone; others will join up with the priesthood and volunteer to maintain distant places of power. bastden are viewed, culturally, as ambassadors between the natural world and humanity, with a duty to both. While many people explain the adopted human children of magical beasts as bastden, not all of those adopted humans are warm to being called that. Some abjure the term entirely, especially if their adoptive families had their own explanations. It’s also true that many bastden are born in normal human households and experience a human upbringing. Because magical creatures are so different to mundane creatures, some people choose to call bastden-by-adoption bastdendal, from skendal, ‘magic beast’. -- source link
