What do you mean *they* cut the power? How could they cut the power, man? They’re animals!
What do you mean *they* cut the power? How could they cut the power, man? They’re animals! ~ Hudson, Aliens (1986)Notes on Syssk:Several years ago I started working on a Xenomorph tarot deck. I had been fascinated by the titular monsters in the Alien movie franchise and wanted to see them do something other than screech and drool (so much xeno drool!) and I might have completed it, too, except that in one of their many purchases Disney bought the rights to the Alien movies and I knew right then my deck would never see the light of day. If the powers that be at Disney are willing to sue a grieving father to prevent him from putting a Spiderman figure on his son’s headstone then I have no doubt that they’ll sue anyone, including tarot deck designers. However, it is only copyright infringement if the property in question is recognizable as the work of someone else; thus, Syssk decided to make an appearance. Her name came about as the only word that she can pronounce. Over the years Syssk has attempted to integrate herself into human society … with limited success. She’s learned etiquette. She taught herself how to apply makeup. She valiantly attempts to enjoy poetry. All of these things fail to take away from the fact that people still see her as monstrous. As the Joker so aptly put it in the Dark Knight (2008), “To them, you’re just a freak … they need you right now, but when they don’t they’ll cast you out, like a leper” … or an alien killing machine from the stars.—- The Magician, from the Xenomorph Tarot. -- source link
