A quick glance at our feed and you’ll see photos of our van (this is the *van* Project after all), but you’ll also see much more. Landscapes that stole our souls, hikes deep into the forest, mountains or desert, adventures we’ve been on, hot springs we soaked our sore muscles in, facts we’ve learned, things we see along the way. • Two years ago, we found ourselves in Rocky Mountain National Park, face to face with these stunning thousand-foot spires above the Sky Pond in an attempt to climb the Petit Grepon (the leftmost spire in the photo). I write attempt because harsh winds, frigid conditions and what looked like an incoming storm chased us off the route. One of the most humbling aspects of adventure outside: no matter how much you prepare mentally, physically or skillwise, Mother Nature may just not feel like cooperating that day (or week or month if you’re in Patagonia). This week, almost two years later we’re giving it another go. Today we’ll hike in and bivy at the base of the climb, with all of our fingers crossed that the weather holds out long enough for us to reach that summit early the next morning. • It’s important for us to share these things, too, if only as a reminder to ourselves that while our sweet rig Tez is one badass home, she’s also a vehicle (both physically and metaphorically) for us to prioritize travel, creativity, personal exploration, growth and adventure. Vanlife is about so much more than the van. (at Rocky Mountain National Park) -- source link
