smokestarrules: The differing ways Odalia talks about her children makes me legitimately sick. The twins are “adorable little scoundrels”; and they’re never given any agency to themselves. They’re a unit, they’re “the twins,” and they’re essentially extensions of Odalia herself. We as the audience know that if there’s any original troublemakers in this family, it was absolutely Edric and Emira, and yet Amity is blamed. Odalia treats them as if they can do no wrong, and Amity like she can’t do anything right. Odalia makes excuses for Edric and Emira, and then she turns around and threatens Amity for simply living her life. All because… what? Because Amity was born with a different hair color? Because she wasn’t naturally talented at magic? Whatever Odalia’s problem is with Amity, it was never well-founded, and never something Amity could control. But one thing’s for sure: this is Odalia’s way of keeping her children apart, isolating them from one another. Edric and Emira are shoved into one corner and Amity is shoved into the other. Thank god they’ve gotten past that barrier now. -- source link
