redriyo: Axanthic Crested Geckos finally hatched! We are incredibly proud and pleased to announce that early this morning our first 2 Axanthic Crested Geckos hatched! These geckos came from a Possible Het Axanthic bred to a 100% Het Axanthic, proving definitively that Axanthic is a simple recessive gene. For those who don’t know, Axanthic is a genetic mutation that renders the animal unable to create yellow or red pigment. Notice how pure the white on the tails is. This is due to the lack of yellow pigment that usually makes the tails a cream color. We are over the moon at the sight of these two little ones, it’s been a long long wait to finally see this sight, and this is huge news for the Crested community as a whole. Axanthic is the first and obviously only proven recessive trait to be found in Cresteds. We look forward to sharing lots of pictures as they grow, as well as pictures of other Axanthic offspring as we continue to mix this trait with other morphs down the road. (Full Pinstripe Axanthic anyone??)Altitude Exotics -- source link
