tired-but-unstoppable:damnfandomproblems: i dislike how normalized genderbends are. Because god forbid people explore their feelings about gender, sexuality or just play around with the design. My favourite character is a very pretty male rockstar who has dialogue in canon suggesting that he is bi or pansexual. Given his appearance, I am inclined to think that any gender headcanon is valid for him. Cis or trans, male or female or non-binary. I like seeing him drawn as a man in make-up, I like seeing him drawn as an AMAB person who chooses to wear skirts and dresses sometimes, I like seeing him drawn as a woman. In fact, it’s quite amusing how little needs to be changed from his canon design to draw the female version. How can it be “transphobic” to change his gender when he has never explicitly stated what it is? We know his pronouns and his sibling refers to him as “brother”, but we don’t know for certain that he’s a cis man. He could be trans male (though it seems a little unlikely since he became famous as a singer at 17), he could be non-binary and still prefer to use he/him pronouns - or prefer they/them pronouns but hasn’t told people yet, and he could be a trans woman who hasn’t come out yet.I think that people’s objection to changing a character’s gender is less about transphobia and more about biphobia. After all, if Klavier’s a woman and she gets together with Apollo, then they become an F/M couple, which is straight and eww. Never mind that a trans bi/pan woman is still queer. Never mind that Apollo himself might well be a trans man (it’s the most popular trans headcanon in the entire Ace Attorney fandom). T4T Klapollo is still queer whatever their actual genders. The only way I can see that changing a character’s gender would be transphobic would be if you removed their trans identity and made them cis! -- source link
