auressea:boaillustration:Never posted this here after I put it on twitter, so here we go~I am trying to sketch more this year (read: at all outside of commission work) and these are some of the results.These are amazing! how do you achieve this balance of “cartoon: but also hyper-realistic”?!?!? Those coloured pieces look so REAL.Oof, late reply, but better than never, I guess? Both of these pieces are done with reference which helped me a lot to figure out how to shade it. There’s no rule of thumb as to how to balance styles. A lot is trial and error and for me too, still an ongoing process of figuring out how I want things to look. But if you want things to look more realistic, the only way to improve is to actually look at real life and trying to bring parts of it into your art! -- source link
