totallynotmerlin: atheistcartoons: Science takes more than three words (“god did it”) to explain, and it produces an ever-changing series of best guesses as to what’s going on. A scientific “fact” that is “disproven” (i.e. updated to take account of new information) is the system working perfectly and as designed, not a weakness. For people trained to think in black-and-white terms, this can be terrifying. Yeah, but a “scientific consensus” still isn’t “scientific fact” it’s still just a generally agreed upon idea, a belief in place of missing fact, which is most definitely not science. Science is about finding and understanding fact even if and especially when that fact disproves theory, science is about universal factual truth and not just a best guess, that’s philosophy. Doesn’t matter if every scientist on Earth agrees with a theory, if that theory is universally incorrect, then those scientists are also incorrect, Every leading scientist in the world can claim the Earth is the center of the solar system, doesn’t make it so. Science is supposed to change to keep up with the facts, the facts aren’t meant to change to suit theories. So, basically, exactly what the OP just said. -- source link
