artemistakenidentity:archaeologistproblems: This is not an archaeologist problem. But. Art History side of Tumblr, help me out here - if this is a Morris & Co. pattern, can someone tell me the name of it and maybe even the date? It’s driving me nuts! I’m not an artist or designer in the least, but in poking around I haven’t found anything that screams it’s from Morris. Instead, the fact that this pattern is sold at Home Depot tells me that it’s something made to look Morris-esque.The company that bought the original plates and designs still exists and still sells them, so I can’t imagine they’d let the copyright to something as prestigious as a Morris design go if they can help it. Thanks for the feedback! But the reason I’m asking if it’s Morris is because multiple companies selling this as a wallpaper tag it as “William Morris,” and do so alongside real Morris & Co patterns like Pimpernel, which they also sell. A lot of the original William Morris patterns are available online from many places outside of Morris & Co.; I don’t believe they’d be able to hang onto the copyright so long after William Morris’ death.Real Wm Morris (Pimpernel):Possibly Morris or possibly a very good reinterpretation or modification?: -- source link
