So. When Sev was just a little Sev, this was such an important scene in this game: Rosa and Rydia both stowing away in the Lunar Whale, refusing to stay behind and give up the fight, knowing they belong on this team. God, I loved it. The scene itself manages to point out a lot of important things here. Rosa’s argument isn’t (necessarily) that she loves Cecil or deserves to go as his partner - both of which may be true - it’s about logic: how far will they really get without a true healer? They’ve got items and Cecil has some White Magic now, but it’s nowhere near the power Rosa is packing. How in the world will they manage to continue to fight the way they have been without Rosa’s healing and protection?Rydia’s argument - “this battle is ours as much as anyone’s” - had better hit Cecil right in the guilt. Rydia’s lost just as much as anyone else on that team: mother (and entire family, since all she had was her mother), hometown, years of life spent in the Feymarch. She’s suffered just as much if not more at the hands of Golbez/Zemus as anyone in that frigging whale; she’s worked just as hard to make things right. She and Rosa have watched friends and companions sacrifice themselves left and right; Rydia has lost so much. They both do deserve to be there, to see this end, to make this closure happen. Plus seriously. Rydia’s magic and Eidolons. We JUST came out of the Giant of Babil, which featured two ridiculously challenging boss fits that Rydia basically singlehandedly took care of for you with Summons (to avoid counterattacks and Reflect) while Rosa held your asses together. Where are your brains?Strategically the decision to leave behind your two mages is a pretty dumb one. Cecil / Kain / Edge, y'all have failed your strategy course today. Study up you fucks. So emotionally, strategically, logically, on every level, the ladies show the gentlemen here What Is Up. And as problematic as the whole setup of this thing may be… This remains on of my absolute favorite video game moments of all time, and I have no regrets. -- source link
