The story of St.George is a muddle of fact and legend. The actual person arrived in ancient Britain some 1800 years ago, with the invading Roman Empire, he was of Cappadocian decent and died in 303 AD in Nicomedia. The knights returning from the first Crusade spoke of St.George, St.Theodore and St.Demetrius joining them in battle and these tales introduced the story of the dragon slaying.
