“I think the theory of noé getting closure through killing vanitas by the end because he wasn’t able to kill louis is…. a really bad narrative choice. Mainly because louis was suicidal and so is vanitas for that matter, noé succeeding in killing vanitas would not be “salvation,” and I very much doubt it would give noé any closure to kill someone whose suicidal and whom he clearly deeply cares about. I get this is manga is a tragedy and all but….. yeah, I’m not a fan of this theory. Noé shouldn’t get closure or feel he’s granted vanitas salvation by killing him. That’s just… it honestly just makes me feel awful. I just really DON’T think Vanitas’ death should be portrayed as salvation. Especially when the central parts of vanitas’ character are how self-loathing + suicidal he is, and just how little he cares about his own well-being in general. Which is something that is actually canonically shown to be very upsetting for noé to see! I really don’t think noé would ever be capable of thinking that killing vanitas would be any kind of salvation :(“ -- source link
