“Leave the World Behind,” Rumaan Alam: the reviews are polarized, and maybe it’s because the book is set in gray zones: it’s not truly post-apocalyptic because it’s not fully clear if an apocalypse is occurring, and I’m sure that ambiguity got some readers to throw the book at the wall. Our present circumstances are not conducive to more uncertainty, either. Initially, I was annoyed but hung for it to pay off, which it did. Or maybe didn’t?
