This is not to take away Hirschfeld’s achievements - far from it. It’s a reminder that our history goes a lot further back than people think, despite attempts to erase this history. (Note for Thomas and the Island readers: If some of this sounds familiar, it’s because this guy influenced Havelock Ellis, who was in turn the inspiration for Dr. L. in the fic.
