greenconverses:Recently read: It’s covers with a shade of blue for the end of May!I was pretty disappointed by Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon. The Ex Talk was one of my fav contemp romances last year, and this one just didn’t have the same sparkle. It was still a pretty decent read, just not what I was hoping for. (★★★)I’ve had an ARC of my girl XiXi Tian’s book This Place Is Still Beautiful for a couple of months and decided I should re-read it in the same place I read the first draft: on a plane back home! I still love it as much as I did the first time, and I hope y’all love it as much when it hits bookshelves NEXT WEEK. (★★★★★)A Relentless Rake by Anna Harrington was fun, though the hero’s conflict was kinda stupid. She’s an another I’ll definitely keep reading. (★★★.5)Hello, do you have time to once again scream about our lord and savior of contemporary romance, Emily Henry? BECAUSE BOOK LOVERS IS THE MOMENT MY DEARS. Everything about this book was delightful. Nora and Charlie’s banter is top tier, their chemistry is on fire, and the emotional beats are just as good and meaty as her last two books. I cried at the end because I’m a baby who loves happy endings. What child do I have to sacrifice to get one ounce of EH’s talent? Because I’ll do it in a heartbeat to get more books like this. (★★★★★)Unfortunately, I must end this review round-up with a stale excuse of a romance. Donut Fall In Love by Jackie Lau has one thing going for it and that’s the cute title. Otherwise, it’s a bland, lifeless drag with leads that have zero chemistry and personality. Oh, aside from the hero’s abs… which are mentioned EVERY FIVE PAGES just in case you forgot that HE HAS ABS. Sometimes even twice on a page because THE ABS ARE IMPORTANT. The writing is ridiculously repetitive and all of the big themes were handled in such a shallow, ham-fisted way. I’ve read so many other books that have handled the baking setting and big themes way better (Battle Royal, Accidentally Engaged) that this was a huge disappointment. DNF at 60%. (★) -- source link
