eatsleepdraw:How to Have Ideas Based on a Prompts List#makingarteveryday Day 3 - SaladEvery time I think I’m going to hate a prompt I end up drawing something I love! Something about not instantly jiving with the prompt makes me think more creatively about what I can do with it to make it fun for me. A good reminder to keep an open mind when working on a challenge like this and not throwing in the towel simply because you don’t instantly have an idea. Some ways I generate ideas from a prompt when stuck:1) Draw the literal prompt. Deviate from the norm. Not all tomatoes are red, they could be odd shapes, have texture or colour variation, it could be bruised/mouldy. 2) Play with variations, maybe for “Tomato” you could put tomatoes of various colours, sizes and shapes, maybe a squished one all together. Collections can be more exciting than single objects. Associate around it and create a fun flat lay style image.3) Abstract. What makes a tomato a tomato? Change an identifying feature. What if it were square? Or blue?4) Associate words, see if that sparks something new. Tomato sauce? Spaghetti! Ketchup? Spilling it on your shirt! Soup? A tin with a tomato on it!5) Create a scene. Where does a tomato grow? Is it on the plant, on a plate, in a salad? Has someone picked it? Is someone/something about to eat it?6) What do you do with a tomato? (Chop it, eat it, make salad…) What shouldn’t you do with a tomato, which would make a fun story? (Throw it, eat it whole, step on it, sit on it…)7) Do you have personal prompt-related stories? Something funny/interesting that happened, a sentimental object/experience you could create a story around?8) Turn the object into a character. What features can you exaggerate? Maybe he has red shiny cheeks, maybe he is very angry and that is enhanced by how red he is. How would a tomato spend its day? How would a tomato definitely NOT spend its day, and can you create a fun story around it? What does tomato’s world look like? What everyday objects might take on a different significance? I.e. a fork could be terrifying/dangerous, a plant pot a cozy home.9) Have a character interact with the object. A person, an animal, another vegetable? What would they do, how would they behave towards a tomato?10) Your brain may go off on a tangent while asking these questions. That’s awesome! Allow yourself to associate freely and follow a random thought down a rabbit hole until you come out somewhere magical or hit a dead end and try again. You don’t have to do all the questions, you don’t have to necessarily do them in order and you can totally get curious and start asking your own questions.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/B63ekBlqaxC/Prints: https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/ffionevans/dinosaur-salad/ -- source link
