Deep, deep down in the center, where the Sun and its luminous God had no place, Python still slithers with shadows, the swirls of fumes, the echoes.Slain, yet alive.Blind, yet all-knowing.His priestess listens, waits, breathes. The mystery, the unexplained.Epsilon.———-The story of The Oracle of Delphi is an endless well where you can go deep as you want, and still find something new (I’ve always found fascinating the fact that the original deity was Python, only later killed and replaced by Apollo). The concept for this painting came to me as I read that among the phrases supposedly carved at the entrance to the temple (like “know thyself” and such) there was a big, looming “E”.No explanation, nothing, just “E”. It was a carving so old that not even Plato knew what it meant. This is the biggest watercolor piece I’ve done in my entire life. I’ve wasted so much time on it that right now I’m hating it with a passion, but hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll feel more forgiving XDMedium: watercolors of paper, Gimp for minor touches and the application of the Golden Texture (the original has actual gold leaf though)Dimensions: 50x70 cmWIPDeviantArt -- source link
