T-Rex is the band, not the individual seen above whose name is Marc Bolan. A part of the original Glam rock scene, Bolan left his mark on music before his untimely passing in 1977. Many big names from the alternative scene in the 1980s named him as a major influence including Johnny Marr (Smiths). There are almost too many ’80s covers of his material to count including Violent Femmes, Depeche Mode, The Bongos, Bauhaus, Adam Ant, The Replacements, Power Station (Duran Duran splinter group) and X. Bolan and many other legends of classic rock (1964-76) can be found on the design Rock Star available as a t-shirt, poster or as a limited edition letterpress print. -- source link
