I should, because he lived a most extraordinary life that went far beyond his accomplishments as the first surf cinematographer. Looking back now, I realize that instead, I’ve chosen to tell his story through the surfers and times that he captured. I do think that’s how he would have preferred it because he was an intensely private, reserved, and modest individual. When I would remind him of the many "firsts” that have been attributed to him, he would say nothing, or impatiently dismiss it with a wave of his hand. Living until 96 years old, he was ever curious about the current condition of surfing, even when surfing left him and his people far behind. Unlike other sports that cherish the shoulders from which they’ve climbed, I don’t think the surfing world has fully realized the magnitude of Bud Browne and how monumental he was in capturing the rich tapestry of the sport’s modern history. I knew this, we spoke about it, and he didn’t seem concerned. But maybe he was a little…because just before his final exit, he made sure to throw me the last Truffula seed.“ - Anna Trent Moore https://www.instagram.com/p/CdWQq7wtTN4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI= -- source link
