gffa:YOU CRYSTALIZED SOMETHING FOR ME THAT I REALLY LOVE–lightsabers are such a great symbol of the Jedi because they are a metaphoric parallel to everything the Jedi are.The heart of the lightsaber is the kyber crystal, which isn’t just because it’s a super conductor for plasma, but because the crystal is sacred to the Jedi, it’s integral to their rituals, it’s semi-sentient in the Force, each one literally calls out to the specific Jedi that was meant to find it, no one else can find it if the crystal and the Force don’t want it to be found, and, “A lightsaber is an extention of a Jedi’s Force awareness. Becasue Jedi let the Force guide their selection of the crystal, the vibration the crystal creates in the lightsaber blade helps Jedi center themselves and find balance in the Force.” (–Star Wars: Lightsabers - A Guide To Weapons of The Force by Pablo Hidalgo)The kyber crystal isn’t just there to be a pretty rock or even a useful tool, it’s there to literally connect to a Jedi’s soul, to their connection to the Force, to help them center themselves and find balance in the Force. That is the very heart of what a Jedi is, so that it’s not just about carrying around a weapon, it’s about carrying around this precious crystal that is singing to you, that’s helping you cut through the noise of the psychic press the Force puts in your head, it helps you stay focused on the light. But it’s also something that takes a lifetime to master–if one can ever truly master it, because this is a lifelong challenge for all of the Jedi–and it’s difficult. It’s not an easy thing, no matter that sometimes the Jedi Order made it look so, because they had their shit under control most of the time. And it’s important. It’s not just a symbol, it’s not even just a sacred, spiritual connection for them. It’s also a reminder that what abilities they’ve been granted, by the Force and by the training they’ve received to connect to those abilities, and the weight of their responsibility to the Republic, because these things can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you don’t know how to properly handle a lightsaber or the Force, you can really hurt people, yourself and others, sometimes beyond repair. Carrying a lightsaber is a reminder that a Jedi’s abilities can be sacred, they can be useful, and they can also be dangerous. “Above all, Jedi must keep track of their lightsabers. Should a lightsaber fall into the hands of an unpracticed or dishonorable person, it will almost always lead to tragedy.” (–Star Wars: Lightsabers - A Guide To Weapons of The Force by Pablo Hidalgo) I love what a perfect metaphor that is for the Jedi. They can do terrible damage if they’re handled by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, isn’t trained for this, who isn’t coming into a situation with their control over themselves locked down tight. We see that with the Sith, how they break and “bleed” these crystals, but that relationship is twisted and painful and suffering.Anyone can pick up and use a lightsaber. But those who aren’t trained for it, it so often leads to tragedy. And, “Only through rigorous training and enhanced senses through the Force can a Jedi use a lightsaber to its full potential.“ (–Star Wars: Lightsabers - A Guide To Weapons of The Force by Pablo Hidalgo) In a paragraph about “who can use a lightsaber”, theoretically, anyone can, but only a Jedi can truly use a lightsaber to its full potential. Because they work in harmony with it, because they wait for the kyber crystal to choose them, because they discipline themselves against hurting others, because it’s deeply important to them and their spirits, that this connection be respected. IT’S SUCH A GREAT ANALOGY FOR THE JEDI. -- source link
