Throughout the month of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month! Today we take a look at the poetry of Paul Laurence Dunbar. Though his career was cut short when he died at the age of 33, he left behind a plethora of poetic, dramatic, and fictional works. He is well known for his works in African American Vernacular English and German and Midwestern regional dialects. These snapshots are from the collection Li'l’ Gal, a series of love poems in his most popular vernacular. (images from Dunbar’s Li'l’ Gal (PS1556 .L5 1904)) -- source link
