alltheprettyghosts:virtual-artifacts:Sandstone stela to the god Osiris. Photo by Kenneth Garrett This stela is very unusual, it’d be great to get some informations about it. Any ideas?Purely from the shape of the eye in the seated man, I would guess it’s from the South during the First Intermediate Period. It was just the artistic style of the period. Because it’s of Osiris, and considering it could be from the north, let’s guess that it’s from Abydos. And the hieroglyphics on the bottom spell Osiris. Don’t know what the tree symbolises, but since Osiris was associated with growing things, often being depicted himself with green skin. Let’s say it’s a 1st Intermediate Period votive stele to Osiris, probably given at the temple in Abydos. But, because it looks quite well preserved, it could also be a NK/3rd IP copy of an earlier stele. This is still all going off the large eye, as that was a tell tale artistic trait of this period. I could be wrong. EoEThanks! :) -- source link
